Subproject C02

Interaction between Surface Morphology and Wear in Chain Drives

Subject of this project is reducing wear and friction losses in the chain joints of driving chains through specific modification of the surface morphology of the contacting bodies. Based on the results of the first funding period, a chain joint tribometer is additionally designed which will allow for a comprehensive systematic investigation of various surface morphologies. Additionally, a wear calculation model and a tribo-simulation model are combined to analyze the influences of geometric surface structures on contact parameters and thus derive the structures for the experimental investigations.
