Deformation and Fracture of Specimens with Structured Surfaces

The goal of this project is the determination of surface morphology-property-relationships, which allow a quantitative prediction of mechanical properties of specimens with different surfaces made by micro milling, micro grinding, particle structuring, or additive manufacturing. An understanding of these relationships will make it possible to identify critical notch dimensions which depend on microstructure and surface morphology and which do not lead to a reduction of the mechanical properties after surface structuring.
