Generation and Characterization of Microscopic Surface Structures in Wearing Systems

Deterministic microstructures will be used to control friction and wear of tribologically stressed component surfaces. The design of the microstructures is derived from the results of the first funding period both with respect to the chemical and structural changes of the loaded surfaces and the nanoscratch experiments on iron single crystals as well. The realization and testing of the first prototype design templates uses technological and scientific competence from all three project areas of the CRC 926.
