Influence of Morphology on Radial Shaft Sealing Systems

Based on the results of the first funding period, seal-countersurfaces made of metastable austenitic steel treated with deformation induced hardening and an optimized cryogenic cooling process are investigated. In addition to the material properties the influence of geometric surface structures is analyzed. On the basis of a further developed tribo-simulation model, suitable surface structures for optimized contact conditions are chosen and manufactured. The experimental investigation of the radial shaft seal ring system includes endurance tests for the analysis of leakage, friction and wear as well as accompanying investigations of shaft lead and oil-pumping ratio.
